Also on Saturday, it was announced that Dave Chappelle (with his ten sold out shows) was the best selling comedian in Just For Laughs history. So hot a ticket was this, that I wasn’t able to secure one. By all accounts it was a stand up performance fitting of one of the old masters with Chappelle securing his place in the comedy history books. The first show was reportedly disappointing but every subsequent one a work of genius. How did Just For Laughs Director of Programming Robbie Praw achieve the impossible and secure the notoriously reclusive Chappelle for ten shows over six nights? We will never know.
But Chappelle being a genius is not news. So I will leave you with my final thoughts on the festival. Best newcomer? Shane Torres from Portland. A true natural on stage, he is destined for great things. This was his first time at Just For Laughs performing as part of the New Faces and I loved his natural charm.
